Complete guide to Spain's digital nomad visa — Ley de Startups, requirements, Beckham Law tax benefits, and how to apply from inside or outside Spain.

Spain's Digital Nomad Visa, introduced under the Ley de Startups (Law 28/2022), allows remote workers and freelancers to live and work legally in Spain while working for foreign companies.

Key Requirements

  • Work remotely for companies outside Spain (or max 20% of income from Spanish clients)
  • Prove a stable income (minimum approx. 200% of Spain's minimum wage)
  • No criminal record
  • Health insurance valid in Spain
  • Professional experience of at least 1 year or relevant qualifications

Duration and Renewal

Initial visa: 1 year. Renewable residence permit: up to 3 years, then renewable for 2 more.

The Beckham Law Advantage

Digital nomad visa holders can apply for the special tax regime (Beckham Law), paying a flat 24% income tax rate on Spanish-sourced income instead of progressive rates up to 47%.

Applying from Inside Spain

If you're already in Spain on a tourist visa, you can apply for the digital nomad visa without leaving the country.
